When people are nostalgically drawn toward a certain thing such as a toy and they have money- it becomes invaluable to them. Even after two decades of playing with a toy, they still want it around, they yearn to recapture their youth. James Gallo said, “They want their childhood back and one way to do that is to buy a piece of it”. But, getting just one piece of a toy you played with during your childhood does not make it a collectible, thoroughly collecting pieces makes it a collectible.
Many people collect toys for fun and enjoyment whilst others collect toys for other reason such as making some extra cash(business), saving for a rainy day and many others. Why? Because the value of collectibles is far more than its original worth. If you’re tilting towards making some extra cash off collectables, here is what you should know.
What are the basics of collectibles?
These are items that can be purchased or sold for more than their original value. They are worth even more if they are scarce. But the condition of the toy has a lot to do with how much you can get. The more immaculate your collectible, the more you’ll be able to get. If it’s rough and dirty, there’s a good chance you won’t get anything. So if you are thinking of making some extra cash off toy collectibles here is what you can do.
It is quite easy to know what toy is making the rounds in the market by visiting eBay. This is where you can also get guidance for putting your toys on the market. Search on eBay for your childhood favourites. Did you cling to the power rangers? Or your teenage mutant ninja turtles? Was it the Set of 100 Pogs? toss them up and make a decision. Toys tied in with movies are usually a big hit. Collectibles market as a whole is also witnessing huge growth even during pandemic.
Set of 100 Pogs
Many children had their hearts captured my milk caps in the mid-90s, and many have collections of Pogs they use to play the game. A set of 100 would have cost a little more than a pound and now it costs more than 40.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Figurines
Children in the 90s all love the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. The characters first made their appearance in an American comic book published by Mirage Studios in 1984 but gained prominence in the 90s. Leonardo the leader of the group is the character you should look out for from the group, its figurine is worth more than the others.
Note that eBay is so appreciative of items that have their original packaging. eBay explains “New in Box” which means a collectible that is new, in its box, and has never been removed from its original packaging. Also “mint in the box”, which means the item is in mint condition and in its original box, which has been opened. If your favourite childhood toy makes the grade you can decide to put it up for sale.
