olefin market

Olefins are the unsaturated hydrocarbons that contain at least one carbon-carbon double bond. They are also known as alkenes. They are generally the non-polar, colorless and combustible unsaturated hydrocarbons. They are extracted by cracking naphtha, crude oil or natural gas and are chiefly used as raw materials in many chemical products. Further, they are used for manufacturing several key plastics, resins, and polymers. Some of the prominently used olefins are ethylene, propylene, and butadiene. Ethylene and propylene are the most commonly used raw materials in plastics and chemical industries. As per the recent Olefins market research report, the production of ethylene and propylene all over the world was estimated to be 115 million tones and 70 million tones respectively.

In early times, the olefins were known as alpha-olefins due to the presence of double bond on alpha carbon in their chemical structure. Further, these are also found in many of the natural living things. For example, beta-carotene is a prominently used olefin that is found in carrots.  Also, olefins such as ethylene are one of the most commercialized olefins used for the ripening of fruits and vegetables. They are extensively used in petroleum industries to produce high-octane gasoline. Further, polymers of ethylene are used to manufacture pails, crates, fibers, bins, bottles, trash liners, bags, wire and cable sheathing, piping, food packaging films, surface coatings for paper and cardboard, insulation, and several other products including tile and flooring for building and construction. It is also used to manufacture chemicals such as Asanti-freezing agents, solvents, detergents, surfactants, and ethanolamine. Other uses of ethylene include cutting operations, as a fuel gas in welding and petrochemical industries as a refrigerant.

REGIONAL ANALYSIS

Rapid industrialization and urbanization in Asian countries such as India and China is the main reason anticipated to drive the olefins market shares in these countries. Also, various initiatives taken by the government and the availability of cost-effective raw materials are leading the market scenario to grow positively during the forecast period. Malaysia and Indonesia registered significant olefins market growth in the last few years. As a result of which, the Asia Pacific is expected to become the largest manufacturer of olefins in the years to come.

SEGMENT ANALYSIS

Based on product type, the market has been segmented as1-Octane, 1-Dodecene,1-Hexane, 1-Butene, 1-Decene, and Others. Olefins are used comprehensively as plasticizers, cosmetics, polyethylene, adhesives synthetic lubricants, detergent alcohol, and others. Out of which polyethylene is the segment which dominated the business revenue by registering a revenue share of 57% in 2018. Additionally, olefins are used extensively by construction industries. Further, these compounds are majorly used in the packaging sector and for prototype development on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and 3D printers.

OLEFIN MANUFACTURING COMPANIES:

Shell Chemical Ltd., INEOS Oligomers, Sasol, Sinopec Beijing Yanhua, ONGC, Chevron Phillips, Idemitsu Petrochemical, Exxon Mobil Corporation, and Saudi Arabia are top leading olefins manufacturers. New strategies adopted by the olefin manufacturing industries will help these market vendors to expand their business all over the world. For instance, several long term agreements have been signed by these industry players with raw material industries to acquire their acquisition all over the world. Also, the cost-effectiveness of raw materials, the rapid development of manufacturing industries infrastructure and advanced business strategies are the factors driving the olefin market shares greatly.
